I was looking to get a boat survey done on a boat I intended to buy. I am from NY and the boat was located in NC so naturally I went with the guy with the best reviews and that was Jared Houghtalen. Once I called him he told me he was unable to help me out in the time frame I needed and he highly recommended Ben Brown from long bay marine. I am a believer in recommendation and I couldn’t have been happier to go with my gut. Ben did an exceptional job with my pre purchase survey. Not only did he give me a through and extensive report on every inch of the boat but he also sent me 250+ photos so I could get familiar with it from a distance and see what he saw. The seller even called me to tell me how great of a survey was done on the boat. I would HIGHLY recommend Ben to anyone looking for a marine survey that wants a true and honest representation of what you are getting.

I needed a SAMS surveyor in the NC area. I contacted Ben with a very short notice on my watch and he was able to accommodate us. From the moment I spoke to Ben, he kept us well informed about the survey date and what to expect. He communicated directly with the seller’s broker and was able to perform a very detailed inspection of the boat. He then provided us with a written report within 24 hours and discussed every deficiency found on the boat and its best recommendation. Extremely professional and very knowledgeable. Hired Long Bay Marine (and Ben Brown) to survey a used cruiser, and as prospective new boat owners my wife and I couldn’t be happier. We attended both the land and sea portions of the survey, and not only was he extremely thorough (identifying a number of important issues that we would have never found on our own – get a survey!), he was very patient with all of our dumb questions, and we ended up learning a lot while having fun to boot. Turned around the final report extremely quickly too. Thanks Ben!

Exceptional work! Ben performed an in-depth pre-purchase survey of a 2011 Stingray I was unable to see in person. After his survey he took the time to walk me through all of his notes and even provided maintenance and upkeep suggestions I could use going forward. He then put together a thorough written report which included pictures of the entire boat. Based on Ben’s findings I was able to get the dealer to fix several items on the boat before I purchased it. This definitely saved me some money. Ben’s work gave me the validation I needed in order to confidently buy the boat. I have had other boats surveyed and Ben exceeded all expectations. If you are a first time boat buyer this is the guy who will fully explain what you are buying and if you are knowledgeable you still can gain from his extensive knowledge

Ben is the consummate professional! I have never witnessed a more detailed, objective, focused inspection of any type. I recently purchased a boat from out of state. Due to the type, location, and cost of the boat, I knew I needed a professional advocate to give me a fair assessment of my potential investment. We hire Long Bay Marine LLC for a survey on a 33′ Fishing Cruiser, with twin 8.1 engines, Generator, Cabin AC, Galley, Head, cleaning station, live well’s & much more. Ben was very professional, & we felt the survey he performed was very thorough. Ben shared his finding with us as he worked, & he also provided on hands detail as he seen needed. Ben was opened to answering any questions or concerns we had during the survey. The final survey report provided is excellent, its well formatted, written, and very informative, we would highly recommend Ben & Long Bay Marine for your next survey.

Ben was awesome to work with I was not able to be there for the survey and left it in his hands after I had to fly home. The boat had a small mechanical issue on the day of the survey which prevented Ben from doing a sea trail. He agreed to go back ( over an hour each way) and complete the sea trial on another day when the issue was fixed. Ben was prompt and always communicated with me every step of the way. I would highly recommend him if you are looking to have a boat surveyed

I’m from out of the area and, upon a referral, asked Ben Brown to survey a boat for me in NC. He was very responsive, quick moving, detail oriented and professional – as well as nice and courteous. He moved quickly and did a thorough survey of the vessel, which revealed a few items that required remediation before purchase. He also followed up with additional suggestions/advice for me as the new owner and reached out to the brand to get me an owner’s manual and allow me to add myself to the owner’s register. In my opinion, he went above and beyond and I would recommend him highly.

Ben Brown put forth a very thorough inspection report on every aspect of the boat outlining meticulous details good and bad about the boat. Recommendations were made on how to have a healthier boat for our trips offshore. The smallest detail on a boat could leave you stranded or crippled offshore if you are unaware of a simple fix.
